There is nothing quite like the experience of holding a newly printed book in your hands and cracking it open for the first time, smelling the printer's ink, discovering with wonderment the surprises contained therein, and the whole tactile sensation of flipping through the pages and being able to run your hands over the paper. I have hundreds of books, some which are dog-eared and are very old, having been passed down from family members or picked up at library book sales. So count me amongst those who prefer the printed page to reading a book on an electronic device and I hope the old-fashioned book never goes out of style.
However, one must keep current with the times and I am told that the new eReaders are the hottest new consumer item, with a projected 35 million Kindles in use by the end of 2012 (and that's just Amazon's reading device). Barnes & Noble's Nook is now supposedly outselling Kindle.

Incidentally, I am hearing from some fans that they are buying both the print and the eBook versions of my book. (I'll let you in on a little secret: the eBook contains some additional stories, including about how Jim was involved in a car accident in Mexico that turned out to be quite humorous, and how it laid the groundwork for his next album; and also info about his last demo session, plus more). The hard copy stays pristine as a keepsake in your home for leisurely reading and as part of your Jim Reeves collection of records and CDs, and the eBook version enables you to take the book with you in your briefcase or purse to read "on the go." A couple of friends tell me they read the book while on a luxury cruise.
The advent of the eBook technology has enabled authors to make their books more readily available all around the world. My eBook sales are phenomenal, as this distribution method has enabled
the untold story of Jim Reeves to reach many more fans than just the print edition of my book. It is truly gratifying that after so many years of work, my book has been so well received.
Amazon's sales rank shows that on March 31, 2012 my eBook ranked #57,150 out of more than 1,000,000 books in the Kindle Store. (I prefer to think of it in terms of my having sold more eBooks than about 950,000 other authors on Amazon. Ha.) It has been as high as 19,281 on March 17th. Here is the chart. (Click to enlarge).
My eBook is a cloud-based digital book that allows readers to access it on almost any device from tablets to smartphones, computers to most e-ink devices.
IMHO, Apple has the best eReader — the iPad. With the introduction of the new iPad with its brilliant display (so good the human eye can't detect pixels), the iPad2 model has come down in price to $399. With iBooks, you can browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, look up words in a dictionary or thesaurus, and bookmark and add notes to your favorite pages. When reading on some of the eBook devices, you can also rotate it sideways to enlarge the page to make the type and especially the photos bigger.
Kobo has a Vox eReader with rich color, multi-touch screen and more.
Customers with an Android tablet or smartphone can also shop indie any time through the
IndieBound Reader app for Android.
Indie bookstore customers don't have to choose between reading
digital and supporting their local bookstore. American Booksellers
Association member stores with IndieCommerce websites are also selling eBooks like mine online.
